Carecet

Pale Yellow Lizard · Barbarian · Volume-Based Tactician · Player: Posei

If the attack is worth making, it is worth announcing. If the discovery is minor, it is still worth yelling about.

First Observation

Carecet is a pale yellow lizard and a barbarian of the declarative school. He does not merely attack. He announces the attack. He does not merely notice something. He reports it to the entire party at a volume that makes secrecy a theoretical subject.

His strength is, at present, unrivaled. His intellect is, at present, also notable, though not in the same direction. The comparison most often reached for is a rock. The chronicle considers this unfair to rocks, which have never claimed tactical command.

Doctrine: Hit Earlier or Harder

For all this, Carecet is willing to learn. This is important. He is not opposed to magic, technique, strategy, scholarship, or any other discipline traditionally housed outside the fist. He is opposed only to outcomes that do not eventually allow him to hit people sooner, harder, or both.

This makes him more flexible than his appearance suggests and less flexible than his teachers may hope. A lesson that improves patience will be poorly received. A lesson that shortens the distance between Carecet and the next target will be retained with surprising care.

The Regression Claim

It is somewhat known, and less secretly than Carecet may believe, that the lizard claims not to be on his first life. He speaks of ascending as Godwoken multiple times. Each time, by his own account, he wished to turn back the clock and begin the journey again with impaired memories.

The regression story is not impossible. Rivellon has accommodated stranger violations of sense. The memory issue, however, admits a second explanation: Carecet may simply be like this. The chronicle has not yet found a test that can distinguish time-damaged wisdom from ordinary stupidity at this volume.

The Question This Chapter Must Answer

Carecet says he has done this before. The question is whether experience can survive inside a mind that treats memory as optional equipment, and whether the party will benefit from his past lives before it is deafened by his present one.
